トーマス・ハンプソン/オートグラフ~自選ベスト(12CD)

オペラやコンサート、リサイタルの分野で世界的な名声を得てきたバリトン歌手、トーマス・ハンプソンが、WARNER(とEMI)でおこなったレコーディングの中から自選音源をCD12枚分集めたお買得ボックス。 ハンプソンは1955年6月28日にインディアナ州エルクハートに誕生。1981年、メトロポリタン歌劇場のオーディションで1位を獲得後、渡欧してオーディション・ツアーをおこない、デュッセルドルフのライン・ドイツ・オペラでデビュー。1985年からはチューリッヒ歌劇場でアーノンクール指揮のモーツァルトのオペラなどを歌って次第に注目を集めるようになり、1986年メト・デビュー、1988年ザルツブルク音楽祭にもデビューするなど国際的な活動を開始します。 一方でハンプソンはリートやコンサートの分野でも実力を発揮し始め、その思慮深い歌唱により、特にマーラーに関しては高い評価を獲得していました。
 緻密で表現力に優れ、しかも朗々とした美声の持ち主であるハンプソンの歌は、かのシュワルツコップやバーンスタインも絶賛していたのは有名な話。(HMV)
