Testifying to Christian hope, the Gregorian pieces linked to funerals and death remain peaceful and luminous. Two words are enough to express what we feel when listening to these services: fullness and hope.
This album brings together two exceptional services, that of Good Friday which meditates on the sufferings and death of Christ with the adoration of the Cross (with a recording of the famous Improperes, God's reproaches to his people), as well as that of the Christian's funeral where Gregorian chant truly touches the sublime, through the strength and intensity of prayer.
Death is a passage: these poignant melodies remind us of it but lead us to serenity, confidence and above all hope. The directory for the deceased is therefore not a sad directory! On the contrary, it is a set of pieces that aims to be full of hope. From the toll accompanying Psalm 50 to the Vidi aquam of the blessing of water during the Easter season...
This is a historical recording of the Abbey of En Calcat, at the time when the alumnate, with his children, participated in the daily liturgy. Death is placed in a context... No piece of the mass is missing, including the very beautiful antiphons sung during the burial. Children bring an angelic touch to this magnificent CD.
