goddam, and all, sort of, for Chrissake, she killed me, if you want to know the truth, lousy, I'll admit, old ●●, as hell, give ●● a buzz, crazy, shoot bull, phony

P55
Sensitive. That killed me. That guy Morrow was about as sensitive as a goddam toilet seat.
p140
He made Allie go get his baseball mitt and then he asked hime who was the best war poet, Rupert Brooke or Emily Dickinson. He made Allie said Emily Dickinson. I don't know too much about itself, because I don't read much poetry, but I do know it'd drive me crazy if I had to be in the Army and be with a bunch of guys like Ackley and Stradlater and old Maurice all the time, marching with them and all.
P146
I simply happen to find Eastern philosophy more satisfactory than Western.
(略)
Not necessarily in China, for God's sake.
" You know that song 'If a body catch a body comin' through the rye'?" I'd like-
"It's 'If a body meet a body coming through the rye'!" old Phoebe said. " It's a poem. By Robert Burns."
This fall I think you're riding for - it's a special kind of fall, a horrible kind. The man falling isn't permitted to feel or hear himself hit bottom. he just keeps falling and falling. The whole arrangement's designed for men who, at some time or other in their lives, were looking for something their own environment couldn't supply them with.
I can very clearly see you dying nobly, one way or another, for some highly unworthy cause.
突然、pervert(変質者)みたいになるのだ。
